So Peter Gammons called into the Mike Lupica show today and said the following:
Peter Gammons: I’m not sure I have any answers to it, because it was so crazy. Everybody’s just running after the money, is what it all comes down to.
Mike Lupica: Peter, what’s the endgame here? Because it’s going to be very hard for them to get this thing into federal court. I keep holding out hope for the good of the sport that there is still a deal to be made on this suspension.
Gammons: I don’t know whether—and I’ve had people on the Yankees say this to me. He wants to blow up the world. You know, he’s like the marathon bombers. It’s just, he’s going to get them.
Oh Gammy, you silly old man. Look Im not going to sit here and chastise this guy like many seem to be doing. Was it a dumb thing to say? Of course it was, and he knows it and has since taken to twitter to apologize profusely.
Guy is a Hall Of Fame writer, been around the league for decades, is a Massachusetts native and used to work for the Boston Globe. Maybe hes losing a step or two in his old age, but hes not looking to cause a controversy. He was looking for something comprable to blowing up the system, blow up equals bombs, and that was the first thing that popped into his head.
I have lost count at how many times Ive said something dumb in my life. Think we can all agree that Gammons isnt out to cause an uproar or offend anyone, and lets just move on.
