This was obviously the big story yesterday. The worst kept secret in the NBA for the last few weeks since Lebron announced he was going back to Cleveland.
The Cavs trade Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett, and a 2015 first round draft pick to Minnesota for Kevin Love. This obviously makes the Cavs instant contenders in the weak Eastern Conference, but I disagree with all those that are just giving them the title already. More on that in a sec.
Listen everyone is praising Lebron for “going home”, and while that may have been a small part of it, you are a fool if you think that was all of it. I think he took a good look at what he had in Miami and the landscape of the Eastern Conference in general, and saw an opportunity in which he could go to a younger team that with him can compete right away. I fully believe, as do most I think, that the wheels on this Love trade were put in motion before he chose Clevelend, and yes I think Bron had a huge hand in it. Not even sure why they need GM, they are on the “just do whatever Lebron wants” train.
That said, this new Cavs team will compete, will be fun to watch, and will probably put up a lot of points. I just dont know if they can play good enough defense to win a championship. With a healthy Derrick Rose I think the Bulls are a better team, certainly defensively, but obviously Rose is a big IF. And even if they did make the Finals, Im still not sure they can beat the top 2-3 teams in the west in a 7 game series. Time will tell I suppose.
