(Hollywood Reporter) – One of the stars of the classic baseball film The Sandlot has been charged with assaulting a 22-year-old man on Halloween and faces up to four years in state prison if convicted.
Michael Anthony Vitar, who played Benjamin Franklin Rodriguez (aka “Benny the Jet”) in the 1993 film, was charged Tuesday with “one count of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury” stemming from an assault that took place on Oct. 31, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Along with two others, Vitar, 36, now a Los Angeles firefighter, is accused of assaulting a man handing out candy to kids while he walked down the street, according to the district attorney’s office.
The men saw the victim handing out the candy then allegedly chased him down and jumped him before Carpenter allegedly choked him, according to the district attorney’s office.
Benny! Benny! Benny! You’re killin me smalls!
Something definitely seems fishy about this story. So 3 firefighters just sitting there minding their own business, spot a guy just walking down the street giving out candy on Halloween, and just decide to beat the crap out of him? That just doesnt add up, but thats for another time and place.
Always weird to see former child stars in these situations. Mostly because this is the only time you hear from them again is when they are in trouble with the law or dead.
This guy was a huge teen idol in the 90s. Benny The Jet followed by playing Luis Mendoza in The Mighty Ducks 2 & 3. And then was virtually done with acting out of the public eye, apparently being a firefighter in LA.
Gotta try and not let these incidents ruin the childhood memories, Ill always remember him as the kid that took down the Beast
